I briefly touched on measuring success correctly and thought I would do a quick example of a market share calculation - to check whether the increase in tourism arrivals celebrated in Seychelles is really a success relative to 'the market'.

I chose the 5 main destinations in the Indian Ocean as 'the market', since, I feel these have lots in common, including cost of vacations and tropical environment (I am sure the statisticians among my readers may argue better choices).

This little exercise shows:
  • Mauritius lost the most market share
  • Sri Lanka gained the most
  • Seychelles did not gain any market share

FURTHER FOOD FOR THOUGHT!
