In case you are wondering why I am in awe of Singapore's accomplishments, here are 3 sets of data that explain it nicely.

Creating Value as a Net Exporter (i.e. more exports than imports)

Notice that it sits among countries with high-value natural resources, like oil.

Keeping Value by managing it's reserves carefully

Singapore has one of the best-managed sovereign wealth funds (i.e. company that invests the government's money in companies or similar, both locally and internationally - for example, they have shares in Airtel of India)

...and the above value helps keep the country's 'balance sheet' very clean, especially given the country's size!

Great article with great ideas. Should we, as individuals and as a country, embrace them, we can start thinking of a brighter future.

I'll be on the look-out for the next article.

    1. Thank you for the comment. It does not stop at a country level, but also at the level of Africa! For example, Nigeria appears as the 9th top Net Exporter but completely disappears in the rest of the value preserving league tables! By contrast, I was pleasantly surprised to notice Mauritius make an appearance in the Net Intl Investment standings.
